Berry-Time Once Again

Black RaspberriesThe first black raspberry cobbler of the season has been baked and devoured!  Oh how my family loves fresh black raspberries.  My dad and mom grow the berries in their backyard and dad is the designated picker because after all, there is an art to picking berries (only the ripe, get them all, beat the birds to the berries). The first cobbler is a tradition that signals summer is here and joy abounds.  News travels fast and before you know it, my dining room is filled with hungry cobbler gobblers.  It is served hot out of the oven with premium vanilla ice cream.I will share my family recipe

Evening Reflections

Well, it's Friday evening and the rain is coming again. Earlier I sat on my porch and watched two hummingbirds at the feeder. Wrens were at another feeder and the woodpecker was eating from the suet hanger. I began to ponder God's creation and my thoughts turned to Gus, our sweet yellow lab that we had to put down this week. His love was unconditional and he never tired of our company. He loved Scott completely and without reservation. They were pals. Gus always greeted our guests and never knew a stranger. I will post some more pictures of our life with Gus in the coming weeks for all to enjoy. Never a better companion than our Gus-Gus.

The Ninja

"This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it". I hope you have an excellent day. Severe weather is a possibility for many. Take care and be safe. I have an 'out of the mouths of babes' moment to report. My son and grandson were with me at the Dollar Store shopping for treasures recently. S, age three was trying to decide which two items he was going to buy when we stepped to another aisle. He shouts, "Look, a Ninja" as the woman in a burqa looked on. We quickly left that aisle. Seeing this as a teachable moment, I took the the opportunity to explain to S that the woman was of another culture and that she was wearing a burqa and that was a clothing style. I have since looked up the definition, Burqa, a full body cloak worn by some Muslim women. I am pretty sure all S saw was a Ninja!
